On Dark Horses by Emma Ruth Rundle

A colleague mentioned her love of Emma Ruth Rundle to me when we were talking about shoegaze. I was expecting something different when I listened to this album, but I was by no means disappointed.

Rundle has a dark aesthetic which, at least on this album, pairs well with the primal post-rock rhythms. "Darkhorse" is a particular favorite, its shifting, moody instrumentation serve as a perfect vehicle for Rundle's powerful and plaintive vocals.

Anytime I see an artist that is recommended if you like Russian Circles and Mazzy Star, it's safe to say I'm intrigued.
